Karen Katiyo – EDI Officer, Journal Manager (2021-22)

Karen Katiyo is the Law Journal’s Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Officer! She is currently a PhD student in International Relations and holds an LLB (Hons) and MLitt in Legal and Constitutional Studies. Her research interests broadly centre on constitutionalism, political transformations, and justice institutions. Her doctoral thesis focuses on conceptualising constitutional courts in the aftermath of political transitions in sub-Saharan Africa and Eastern Europe.

Karen is also a legal and policy consultant for NGOs, CSOs, government departments and private clients in southern Africa across thematic areas concerning constitutionalism and the rule of law, access to justice, and the realisation of human rights. She has experience working across diverse teams and projects, which have included delivering human rights training workshops, developing justice delivery systems, and drafting legislative bills for the Zimbabwean government.

She is currently a member of the School of International Relations’ Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Committee and the PGR sub-committee, actively working towards researching, applying and promoting structural diversity initiatives and policies within the School.
